Glenbrook South High School to Host 33rd Annual North Shore JazzFest
Glenview, IL (PRWEB) January 11, 2010 -- Saturday, January 23, 2010, Glenbrook South High School will host some of the state’s most accomplished jazz musicians when nearly 80 senior and junior high school jazz bands gather to celebrate from throughout the state. Musical workshops and competitions will begin at 7:50 am, running throughout the day, followed by the big-band sounds of two exemplary jazz ensembles at 6:30 p.m., featuring:
• Elmhurst College Jazz Band directed by Doug Beach
• Champaign Central High School Jazz Ensemble, the 2009 JazzFest Grand Champion
Admission fees allow access to all daytime band performances, as well as featured bands at night: Adults $10, Children 12 and under $5, Seniors $5, and Family Pack (up to 2 adults and 3 children) $25.
According to Glenbrook South High School Band Director Greg Wojcik, “The turnout for this year’s event is inspiring. Hundreds of students will be learning and sharing some amazing musical talents, not only among themselves, but also with jazz professionals. It’s really a showcase of the next generation of jazz musicians.” Dozens of parents, students, staff members, maintenance crew, and community organizations contributed to the planning and orchestration of the event.
During the day, high school jazz bands, grouped into three Divisions, will compete with other bands for winning performances. Bands will be judged by music professionals on a variety of musical standards, including ensemble tone, rhythm, precision, interpretation, and improvisation, among other criteria. Winning ensembles—and the 2010 JazzFest Grand Champion—will be announced at an Awards Ceremony following the evenings featured performance. Glenbrook South High School is located at 4000 W. Lake Avenue, Glenview, IL 60026. For more information, contact Glenbrook South Band Directors Greg Wojcik or Michael Fogarty at 847-486-4435.
